Closing a Staple of London Luxury: The Lanesborough Will Shut Down for Renovations

The Lanesborough has been serving hotel guests since 1991 in a building that has been in existence since 1827! Originally a hospital, the hotel holds a rich history behind its walls. For this reason, loyal Lanesborough guests have been informed to enjoy the hotel in its current state until it closes for renovations on December 20th. The Lanesborough is even allowing guests to take a piece of Lanesborough history home with them through an auction that will take place between December 9th and 13th. Fans of the hotel will be able to purchase decorations, artifacts and furnishings in their original state.

The all-encompassing renovations will affect all 93 guestrooms and all of the hotel’s public areas. The Lanesborough’s management assures that the renovation will “embody the signature style that has become synonymous with The Lanesborough, whilst incorporating the latest in contemporary luxury and technological innovations.”

The late interior designer Alberto Pinto initiated the plans for the Lanesborough update, and his framework will be used as the foundation for the coming renovation. The Lanesborough hopes to “reaffirm [itself] as one of the most distinguished and luxurious hotels in the world.” according to managing director Geoffrey Gilardi. The renovations are set to be completed by the end of 2014.
