Doggy Hotel in Chelsea a Pampered Pooch Palace

For the well-to-do upper-crust dog owner in the upscale area of Chelsea, Manhattan, plain doggy kennels for the family’s furry members are a thing of the past as D Pet Hotel opens its luxurious doors later this summer at 104 W. 27th St.

The fancy canine retreat, owned by Kerry Brown and Christian Skowlund, has one aim in mind for its four-legged guests: recreating the home environment so that the doggies will feel relaxed and enjoy a little pampering while their human family is out on holiday.  Accommodations at the 10,000 sq. foot facility include a fitness spa, meals prepared by a chef, full-sized beds and flat-screen TV’s with prices starting at $79 a night for a standard suite comprising of a designer Kuranda dog bed.

For $110, a pooch will enjoy a flat-screen TV and DVD player stocked with dog-themed films, while a $200 “Uber Suite” features a queen-sized bed, a 19 foot ceiling, and a 42 inch TV with cable.  Brown and Skowlund also assure that day care is available as well.  Gourmet food is also available at $9 a meal and is a choice of brown rice with chicken, vegetables, or lamb.

Dog walking around the neighbourhood is offered at $60 an hour, and the doggy spa features “pawdicures” and hot oil treatments to soothe rough skin and coats.  The gym in the spa comes complete with little dog-sized treadmills so that the doggies can maintain or increase their fitness levels and look their best when their owners come to pick them up.
