Luxury hoteliers in Dubai have announced plans to open a new five-star hotel with a twist; the hotel’s design will be modeled on the iconic Taj Mahal. The hotel, set to be three to four times larger than the original, will be the jewel of a new 41-million square foot development on Emirates Road called Falcon City of Wonders. In reference to the original, located in India, the hotel will be called the “Taj Arabia”. Officials from the Link Global Group, developers of the project, said the hotel will comprise some 300 rooms and full-service apartments.
Speculated to cost close to 1 billion USD, the project will reportedly be complete in 2014. Officials hope that the hotel will become a destination for weddings and possibly even a filming location for the lucrative Bollywood movie industry. Officials also announced that they won’t stop with the Taj Mahal; there are also plans to replicate the Eiffel Tower, Great Pyramids, Tower of Pisa, Great Wall of China and the entire “Town of Venice.”
The original Taj Mahal, a white marble mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, took 22 years to build.
