Travel website Expedia has released their sixth annual list of the world’s best hotels.
The rankings come from the reviews of more than 500,000 customers in 2011, and are based on a number of metrics. The website examined hotel reviews for value, price, amenities and customer service.
Of the more than 150,000 hotels on Expedia, only the top 650 make the Insiders Select list.
Topping the rankings was Marrol’s Boutique Hotel in Slovakia. The rest of the top five hotels were the Hotel de Codega in Venice, Hotel Royal Corin in Costa Rica, the Hilton Garden Inn Aberdeen in Scotland and the first American entry comes in fifth with the Four Seasons Miami.
Element Omaha Midtown Crossing in Omaha, NE, the Sonnenalp Resort of Vail, CO and Mr. C Beverly Hills are other American hotels in the top ten.
Thirty-five percent of the hotels on the list were considered luxury hotels.
