The TWA Flight Center was created as a beacon of modernity for the United States’ jet age, but it has stood as a landmark only for quite some time now. Thankfully, it may be reborn as Hotelier Andre Balazs’ Standard Fight Center.
Balazs will develop Eero Saarinen’s artful architecture into a his dream: a luxury hotel. Balazs currently owns Standard, High Line & Top of the Standard and Le Bain in NYC’s Meatpacking district. Reportedly, the Eero Saarinen terminal will eventually become a hotel and conference center, retail space, spa and fitness center and flight museum, among other things.
Balazs tells Page Six, “It is a great honor to be entrusted with the preservation and revitalization of this masterpiece by my personal architectural hero.”
We’re excited to see the new plan and whether the proposal will gain final approval.
