Six Senses Announces Plans for First European Resort

Six Senses has plans to open its first property in Europe in the Portuguese Douro Valley. The luxurious spa brand is set to open in the area by the spring of 2015.

The hotel will hold 71 guestrooms across 19 acres of land. The design theme will be modern coupled with romantic 19th century architecture.

The Six Senses property in the Douro Valley will also lend guests a sampling of Portuguese cuisine. Dining and specialty venues will use produce from the hotel’s own garden and the surrounding area.

Guests looking to improve their wine tasting skills can also take part in the Wine Academy on site. Portuguese winemakers and the resort’s sommelier will lead interactive and instructional courses about Portugal’s varieties and styles of wine.

In addition, guests will have a 24,000 square-foot spa facility with 10 treatment rooms. Along with the wine education, the resort will also offers the services of the world’s best wellness experts and healers for its Six Senses Visiting Practitioner Program.

The resort will be accessible from the Vila Real Airport in 20 minutes. Helicopter arrivals will also be available.
