It may seem like an oxymoron: getting insurance on a vacation. However, these days more and more travelers are taking out insurance policies on their trips to mitigate potential risks such as theft, sickness, or even problems with their accommodations.
Seth Kugel recently mused in The New York Times that this trend is here to stay, and that the best way for luxury travelers to embrace this phenomenon is to check out the various insurance packages being offered one by one. For example, Kugel recommends World Nomads and Insuremytrip — to see which package matches the needs of your itinerary; for example, if you’re a baby boomer hiking up to Machu Picchu, then you would benefit from medical insurance. However, if you’re traveling with your Louis Vuitton luggage through an unfamiliar airport to get to Miami for Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart, then baggage protection would be better suited.
Each package tends to provide coverage for a variety of different areas, including: Medical, Emergency Evacuation, Travel Protection, Baggage Protection, and Accidental Death and Dismemberment. Tell us – do you get travel insurance for your luxury vacations?
