The Amalfi Coast, an idyllic stretch of southern Italy, running through the Sorrentine Peninsula and Province of Salerno, is renowned for its beauty. Today Haute Hotel is bringing you to the Villa Tre Ville, a luxury hotel located on an historic estate on the sea between village of Positano and Hotel San Pietro.
Originally owned by Italian opera director and producer Franco Zeffirelli, the man behind Academy award-winning films like The Taming of the Shrew, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Overlooking the waters of the Positano, the estate was built around gorgeous lawns and gardens, where pergola tangles with wisteria, and majolica tiles are interspersed with vegetable gardens and tropical plants.
Since then, hotelier Giovanni Russo converted the estate’s four main villas into a luxury hotel thanks to major renovations. With only sixteen bedrooms, this hotel is the equivalent of a limited-edition model timepiece; luxe and covetable. Suites are beautifully appointed, with fresh-cut flowers, private terraces, luxurious bathrooms and private pools.
In an interview with Architectural Digest, Russo said, “When the property went up for sale it was a dream come true. I wanted a place where my friends and people from all over the world would feel truly at home in Positano.” When he tapped Fausta Gaetani, a designer based in Rome, to undertake the renovations, they were careful to retain the original beauty of the place. “How could one possibly change the white-tiled room designed by Mongiardino?” she told AD. “And sleeping against the same headboards used by Laurence Olivier or Liza Minnelli is part of the experience, isn’t it?”
Although the Amalfi Coast boasts some incredible wonders, from Pompeii to Positano’s own Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta church, we recommend not booking in too many activities; once you arrive at the Villa Tre Ville, you will be wooed by the slow, luxurious lifestyle of the place.
The Villa Tre Ville is located at Via Arienzo 30, Positano. For more information call 00 39 089 8122411 or visit their website.
